Todd Pollard’s stomach is doing somersaults as Friday approaches – the day he’ll watch his first runner parade in the mounting yard, not as an assistant trainer, but as the boss.
It’s a modest stage for such a momentous occasion – a low-key meeting at Ipswich where the New Zealander will officially launch his training career with gelding Ikasara in a $28,000 Class 4 Handicap over 1100m.

Todd Pollard’s first public step into the world of training racehorses under his own name has been one of caution. His next will represent a homecoming, coupled with an ambition to have a runner in New Zealand’s richest race for two-year-olds in 2027.

Formerly the racing manager for Stephen Marsh and assistant trainer to Annabel Archibald, Kiwi expat Todd Pollard has announced he has obtained his trainers' licence and will go out on his own in February. Pollard sat down with TTR to reflect on the journey that has led him to this new venture.
The best trainers are mentored by top trainers on their way up, and Todd Pollard has been mentored by several of those on either side of the Tasman. Experiences garnered across the stables of Graham Richardson, Stephen Marsh, Annabel Archibald, and two years with Godolphin Flying Start have set the Kiwi expat to take the next step and launch his own training operation.,,
